Myobrace®
for Children

Early treatment that addresses why teeth grow crooked — not just the crooked teeth. Myobrace® helps children develop correct breathing, oral posture and jaw growth.

Myobrace® in Vermont South, Melbourne

At Melbourne Dental Family Care we help children build the right foundations early — correct breathing, healthy oral posture and proper jaw development — so complex bite and alignment problems are far less likely later on.

Myobrace® is a no-braces, removable appliance system. Rather than simply pushing teeth into line, it treats the underlying habits that caused the crowding in the first place, which is why it works best while a child is still growing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Myobrace®

+What age is Myobrace® suitable for?
It generally works best between ages 3 and 15, while the jaws are still developing. The ideal window is often 6 to 10, when adult front teeth are coming through and habits can still be redirected easily. We assess each child individually.
+How is it different from braces?
Braces straighten teeth that are already crooked. Myobrace® aims to stop them becoming crooked in the first place. It targets habits such as mouth breathing, incorrect tongue posture and thumb sucking — the causes of crowding — rather than only the result.
+How long does my child need to wear it each day?
Usually one to two hours during the day plus overnight while sleeping. Compliance is the single biggest factor in the result. We coach both child and parent, because the appliance only works when it is actually worn.
+Will my child still need braces later?
Sometimes, but often less treatment is needed. Early Myobrace® treatment can reduce the complexity of later orthodontics and, in some cases, avoid the need to remove permanent teeth. We are honest with parents about what it can and cannot achieve.
+Is it uncomfortable?
Most children adapt within a week or two. The appliance is soft and removable, and there are no wires or brackets to irritate the cheeks. Some children find the first few nights unusual, but this settles quickly.
+How long does the whole programme take?
Typically two to three years, in stages, with the appliance changing as your child develops. We review progress regularly and adjust the plan as the adult teeth come through.
